Description:
The 2014 National Baseball Hall of Fame Commemorative Coin Clad Proof Half-Dollar from the U.S.Mint at San Francisco celebrates the 75 anniversary of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and is part of the first curved coin program ever produced by the U.S. Mint.
Chosen after a nationwide competition, the design on the obverse (heads) is inspired by a well-loved and used baseball glove and inscribed with “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST” and “2014.”
The reverse (tails) depicts a baseball similar to those used by Major League Baseball Inscriptions are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “HALF DOLLAR.”
Together, the glove and baseball designs of the National Baseball Hall of Fame Half-Dollar represent the fundamentals of the game, whether played in the backyard, local ball field or big league stadium.
The natural curves of the glove and baseball are captured in this unique, dome-shaped coin.
Since 1939, the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum has preserved the game’s history, honored its excellence and connected generations by fostering an appreciation of the historical development of baseball and its impact on our culture. As an independent, not-for-profit educational institution, the museum supports this mission by collecting, preserving, exhibiting and interpreting its collections for a global audience, as well as honoring those who have made outstanding contributions to our national pastime. Only the top 1% of major leaguers have been enshrined in “Cooperstown,” as it is affectionately known. Currently, the museum houses more than 40,000 three dimensional artifacts and 3 million library volumes, representing all aspects of our national pastime.
