1995 Copper-Nickel Coin Uncirculated

Maui is the second largest of the Hawaiian Islands. It has long been popular with tourists because of its gorgeous scenery, beautiful tropical beaches and numerous cultural activities.  Each year, the Maui Chamber of Commerce issued a trade dollar that is good in trade at participating merchants throughout the island during the year of its issue. Collectors kept most of the coins as souvenirs rather than turning them in for redemption at the end of the year. Thus these trade dollars helped raise funds for educational projects on the island. Over the years the series became increasing popular with collectors.

For 1995, the front shows a Turtle and Fish.  The front reads “MAUI, NO KA OI, 1995”.

The coin has a one dollar face value.

The back reads “One Maui Trade Dollar, The Valley Isle, Good for one dollar in trade at participating merchants during 1995”.

The coin is 39 mm in diameter, is struck in copper-nickel and is Uncirculated.

This 39 mm diameter coin is much larger than both USA quarter (24.26 mm in diameter) and USA half dollar (30.61 mm in diameter).
