Inspiration For Israel Minting This Holy Land Churches Medal:

Israel minted this beautiful copper nickel 38 mm diameter medal  as a commemorative of the Great 2000 Jubilee picturing the famous churches of Bethlehem, Nazareth and Jerusalem.

Pope John Paul II publicly professed that he considered his Holy Land pilgrimage the spiritual highlight of his long and impressive life. That was quite a revelation given that he toured every continent and 129 nations during the 317 months that he presided over the Vatican and the Catholic Church. This medal honors the three famous churches of the Holy Land which greatly inspired His Holiness Pope John Paul The Great.

The Holy Land is the birthplace of Christianity.

Background Info For Holy Land Churches:

These 3 Holy Land Churches were the sites where key events in the birth of Christianity took place:
1- CHURCH OF THE ANNUNCIATION, NAZARETH
2- CHURCH OF THE NATIVITY, BETHLEHEM
3- CHURCH OF THE HOLY SEPULCHRE, JERUSALEM

CHURCH OF THE ANNUNCIATION, NAZARETH

The Christmas story began in this place. The angel Gabriel came to Mary when she resided in a home in Nazareth. (Luke 1:26-56) The Church of the Annunciation spans the area around the home where Mary lived when an angel told her that Baby Jesus would soon be born.

CHURCH OF THE NATIVITY, BETHLEHEM

Many experts say that Mary gave birth to Jesus [Yeshuah] at this place in Bethlehem. (Luke 2:1-7) The Church of the Nativity contains the location of former stable where Jesus was born.

CHURCH OF THE HOLY SEPULCHRE, JERUSALEM

The Romans crucified Christ on the area where this church is situated. Within the church is a crucifix of Christ below which there is a place where you can feel the hole in the rock where his cross may have been placed. (Mark 15:16-39) This Church covers the area experts think to be Calvary and also the area where Christ’s body lay. After the Romans crucified Christ, his body had to be placed in a borrowed tomb since the Sabbath was fast approaching. (Luke 23:50-24:12) The oldest traditions hold that a councilor of the Sanhedrin named Joseph of Arimathea placed Christ’s body within this tomb (that is now within the Church of the Holy Sepulchre) for the days prior to his resurrection. It is now a shrine within the church.
