Artist Christian Riese Lassen, raised on the Hawaiian island of Maui, has spent a lifetime captivated by the sea. Lassen is self-taught, using acrylics, enamel, and oils to depict tropical seascapes drenched in light and richly saturated colors. Paintings by Christian Lassen often immerse the viewer in two worlds: one above and one below the ocean’s surface. This split view emphasizes the interconnection between humans and marine life. An avid environmentalist, Lassen was selected by the United Nations as a Goodwill Ambassador in 1998, the International Year of the Ocean.  Christian Lassen’s prints have been exhibited around the world. As an conservationist and artist, Christian Riese Lassen hopes his art raises awareness to protect the sea and the all life within. He says that the image of a breaching whale still takes his breath away.
