Background Info For Sushi:

What is sushi?
Beginning as a method of preserving fish centuries ago, sushi has evolved into an artful, unique dining experience.  In its earliest form, the sushi maker placed dried fish between two pieces of vinegared rice as a way of making it last.  The cook later added nori (seaweed) as a way to keep one’s fingers from getting sticky.

Technically, the word sushi refers to the rice.   The Japanese word su means vinegar, and shi is from meshi, the Japanese word for rice, hence sushi is ‘vinegared rice’.  However, colloquially, the term is used to describe a finger-size piece of raw fish or shellfish on a bed of rice or simply the consumption of raw fish in the Japanese style.  One can eat it as is, or dip it into shoyu (Japanese soy sauce) and then eat it.  The sushi chef takes great care in the creation of the dish and the many methods of preparing the food indicate the importance of appearance to the educated consumer.  Sushi is a work of art as much as a food.  While it is now available in a western ‘quick and easy’ serving style, the traditional ways are far from lost.

Background Info For Collecting Magnets:

Collecting magnets is a hobby.  Importantly, some collect magnets from their travels.  Also, others collect magnets with a theme.  Further, souvenir shops all over sell magnets.  Indeed, there’s no universal term for magnet collecting.

Louise J. Greenfarb from Nevada owned the largest verified collection.  In 1997, Guinness cited her world record of 19,300 magnets.  Later, it grew to over 30,000 items.  Also, over 7,000 of her magnets were at the Guinness Museum.  As of Nov. 2015, she has over 45,000 different refrigerator magnets.  But the Guinness process is too taxing to update the exact number.
